Why didn't they use the Dragonballs to wish away Goku's heart disease? Then Goku wouldn't have died.

So if the dragonballs wished Goku's heart disease away, he would have never died in the first place

I have the feeling that the producers/writers of DBZ would say something like "it exceeds the power of the balls' creator" or say the balls can't meddle a natural death, only unnatural like in battle.

Or you know, bulma and the crew were just stupid and didn't do it =P

Maybe even Goku got sick too quickley for them to gather the balls up....

Didn't Shenron say something along the lines of "he can't do anything that's out of Kami's power"? Can Kami cure previously-unknown heart diseases?

If he can't, then it's out of Shenron's power to cure Goku of his heart disease.

Plus, if he had been cured, the Android saga would have been a joke. Toriyama needed a handicap placed on Goku so the rest of the cast could get some screen time.

The dragon can only grant wishes within the creator's power, as Naja and Seth said. Typically nature causes and things like that wouldn't be possible to wish away, same with the Great Elder dying naturally of old age. Gokou's disease would fall into that category. I'm sure the heroes would have tried to wish it away, and so there's a reason they didn't...because it didn't work.

That was after dude. My theories are:

1. As someone else said, maybe it's beyond the power of the dragon to heal natural illnesses.

2. Goku had the medicine. Therefore, assuming the medicine did work [which it did], it would not only be a waste of time but also a waste of a wish.

^^I believe he's refering to Future Trunks's Timeline.

...and, yeah, I'd say the dragon's power explanation is the most logical. Plus, it has to do with natural death, which the dragonballs cannot overcome.

has anyone ever stopped to think that maybe Trunks just bought his sword somewhere or something? There's nothing really special about it.

Well it did manage to slice Frieza into a shishkebab so it must've been packing more power than your average blade. Hell even Zelda's sword couldn't pull off that ****.

I don't believe in power levels after the Frieza Saga. :D
Now, there's an idea.

A) It was a natural illness
B) They never saw the point, they assumed the medicine would work, so why waste the time finding the balls and spend a wish on curing something they knew would heal anyway. Also they knew they'd need the wish with the androids coming

^^Again, they didn't have the medicine for Goku in Future Trunks's timeline...

He's wearing his GI since it's his favorite clothing. That's my guess.

So the dragon can grant immortality but he can't make Goku's heart invulnerable to disease? That sounds like a loophole when someone wishes for immortality.

LAST OF MY KIND

Trunks warned Goku about the disease and gave him the medicine telling him it was made in his time and in Goku's timeline the medicine was never made. Goku never knew when it would occured so during battling Andriod 19 he was losing only due to the heart disease occuring which noone knew it would happened then. They knew andriods were coming and by wasting the Dragon Balls on Goku would be pointless. It would be a horrible decision as Goku had the antidope that was needed.

They had the medicine so it wasn't necessary to use the dragon balls. It still wouldn't be a bad idea to have them around for an emergency. People that can move at the speed of light shouldn't need more than two or three days to gather the dragon balls, and that's with them taking long breaks and conserving energy during the whole search.

While some villains wanted to wish for immortality, they never did end up getting it granted. Maybe if they did tell shenron to give them immortality, Shenron would tell them it is beyond his power.
